Detail, Belt, Random Orbit And Multi Sanders
There are a variety of sanders on the market and each has a unique purpose and place when completing DIY projects. Detail sanders are excellent for finished carpentry and small areas. They provide a smooth final finish to surfaces before painting or staining. Belt sanders are great for larger areas and for taking off more surface debris. Belts are available at a variety of coarseness levels allowing you to gradually smooth out rough-cut lumber to an even finish. Random orbit sanders use a circular motion during the sanding process to avoid some of the gouges that can be created by the back-and forth motion used with other types of equipment. They are excellent choices for smoothing out large areas and for larger finished carpentry work. Multi sanders are typically used for finished work.
