Tips for buying a lawnmower
- Consider the size of your lawn when deciding what kind of lawnmower to buy. If you have a small to medium sized garden then an electric model could be right for you as long as there is a power source available nearby. If the lawn area is larger, then a petrol lawnmower is a better option as it will offer you more power and you won’t have to worry about dragging a cable along behind you.
- Think of the type of grass that your lawn is made up of before choosing what kind of lawnmower to get. For example, for a lawn consisting of really fine grass which needs quite regular cuts, a cylinder lawnmower would work best. However, if your lawn gets plenty of use and has moss and weeds growing in it, a rotary lawnmower would be best as it can also handle longer grass if you miss a few cuts.
- Self propelled or push lawnmower? This is entirely a personal preference and might even be down to the type of lawn that you are trying to cut; if there are any slopes etc. A self-propelled model might be worthwhile if you are concerned about the weight of the lawnmower as you don’t have to push and are especially useful if there are a lot of slopes to get around.
